Sialkot International Airport becomes the pioneer airport in Pakistan to install a state-of-the-art Explosive Detection System (EDS), strengthening secure and seamless cargo operations.
On 23rd June 2026, in a landmark development for Pakistan’s aviation and export sectors, the country’s first-ever Explosive Detection System (EDS) in the cargo sector was installed with the support of the Export Development Fund (EDF) and formally inaugurated at the Cargo Terminal of Sialkot International Airport. The state-of-the-art system marks a significant milestone in strengthening cargo security, enhancing operational efficiency, and facilitating exports in line with international standards.
A formal inauguration ceremony was held at the Sialkot International Airport Cargo Terminal. The EDS machine was jointly inaugurated by Chairman Export Development Fund (EDF), Mr. Omer Saeed, and Chairman SIAL, Mr. Hassan Ali Bhatti.
The ceremony was attended by the President of the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mr. Syed Ahtesham Mazhar; Vice Chairman SIAL, Mr. Waqas Afzal; former Chairmen of SIAL; esteemed members of the Board of Directors; CEO SIAL, AVM Tanweer Ashraf Bhatti (R); and other distinguished officials.
Chairman SIAL, along with other esteemed members of the Board of Directors, paid special thanks to the Chairman of the Export Development Fund for supporting such an important project, which will surely promote direct exports from Sialkot to any international destination.
